Alumni 2017

Our 2017 students were Godfrey, Moses, Barnabas, Destiny, Nelly, Lezly, Lucky, Humphrey, Golden, Allan, Robert, Ken, Hazel, Moses, Jane, Richard, Mirriam, Belix, Sharon, Alice, Davy, Nathan and Brian

Here are some of their stories after graduating from PIZ.

Belix Kalunga

“I live in Chingola and I am the Pastor of the New Covenant Church International. I have planted two preaching points along Solwezi Road and the response to the gospel is good despite some challenges I face. One of the challenges was lack of bibles for the work but the Lord has blessed us with a donation of bibles from Mr Andrew Muwowo, through Mrs Maude Chioni.  For 2021, we have a new preaching point, we have appointed some elders to lead the first two preaching points.

Another challenge is that we have no transport to get to these preaching points, 15-20km away. We use public transport when we can. The farms that require visitations are far apart, and it takes long to go from one farm to another. But God gives us the ability to reach them and the response to the gospel is good. We have seen men and women giving their lives to Jesus”

At our church I teach the Sunday School as well. The children listen well although some of them cannot read. I need suggestions/advice on other ways how to engage them.

We have about 20 children. Some are 4yrs, 6yrs and 10yrs, we have divided them into two groups A and B, In group A we have finished old testament books from Genesis to Malachi. See the video clip below.

During my time here, I have discovered a lot of things I did not know before: for example that  most young children have no formal education. Some cannot read even in their own local language. As a result of no school activity for these children, early marriages are common among especially the girls. And because of no biblical foundation for such marriages divorce rates are high too.
The PIZ motto is Training Preachers, Growing Churches. My suggestion would be to consider including a plan for the education of such children, say in rural Christian Community Schools. This would give them a biblical foundation, and hopefully they will embrace the Christian faith and influence future generations for Christ. They are potentially the future leaders of our local churches.

During this period of the coronavirus pandemic, a number of people have been affected but have made a good recovery. Thankfully my family and I are all fine.

On another matter, I have been encouraged and nominated by Mr Andrew Muwowo and Pastor Tryson Mtonga to apply for studies at the Biblical Community Development (BCD) in the USA. The training there would equip me with practical skills to support myself as I minister in a rural setting. This application is on hold due to Coronavirus."

Lezly Daka

Picture
After graduating from PIZ in 2017, Lezly devoted himself to studying the basics of vegetable and poultry production in 2018. Now he wants to start his own poultry business as he does the Lord’s work. At his church Lezly is involved in Evangelism (in the  yellow  shirt) and preaching.

He says “Farming has been my passion and am skilled in taking care of animals and birds and I have also done basic studies in poultry and vegetable farming for business. I can supervise projects and help in the management of the farm if given an opportunity.

It is my prayer and desire that the farm at  PIZ can grow and be able to support the good work the college is doing. Also that as a result even more students can be recruited on the course.”

Lucky Chibuye

“The following is a brief statement of what I have been doing after PIZ.

I went back to my Church in Serenje this time with a new approach to the application of the word of God through exegesis, strictly sticking to what the bible says. I started with being involved in strengthening the church through preaching and teaching.

Full time pastor/worker: The economic climate is such that the church cannot afford to financially support a full time pastor/worker (one of the barriers to planting churches). So I planted a small field to support me and my family as I do the work of the LORD.
The church in Serenje is now established, with two Elders whom the Lord God raised. I am still in close contact with several members there and I visit them from time to time.

The church at Masaiti
Now I am in Masaiti district in the Copperbelt province. So far three families worship God together on Sundays and any other day during the week. Meetings started on the 15th of December, 2019. God willing, there is potential for a new church plant here. We could have made much progress but for the Covid-19 restrictions. Our Church is Christian Brethren or Christian Mission in Many Lands (CMML).

Our meeting is in a rural setting with a number of other churches denominations around. We cover long distances between the villages on foot. Here too, like in Serenje, I do some farming on a small scale (one or two acres) to meet my family’s needs.

How you can pray for us:
  • Please pray that God opens the way for the birth of a new church.
  • Pray for my transport needs to be met ( bicycle).
  • Daily needs to be adequately met through my farming project (fertilizers, seeds and herbicides).

                                                       Thank you”

Moses Chiluba

“I have been involved in church planting work and also teaching in seminars. One such church plant is in Mwandi, in the Western Province of Zambia. The mother church, where I am based is in Livingstone, Southern Province. Because of the government guidelines for the Covid-19 pandemic, we had stopped meeting for two months. Discipleship of new converts was a challenge during this period. Our meetings have since resumed and with God’s help we are reorganising ourselves again.

During my door to door evangelism in Mwandi, the gentleman in the wheelchair, accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He is now a member of our church. The wheelchair was a donation from the UK, via Pastor Andrew Muwowo. Moses Chimwaji, my classmate at PIZ, brought it when he came to teach at my church in Livingstone. We are very grateful for this gift.

The photo on the left shows our first meeting in Mwandi. We currently meet in a tent pitched on a plot that belongs to one of our brothers.

The two brothers on the right are the pillars of our work here. May prayers be made for them that God will equip them as they lead the church.

There are many challenges but I look to God, who called me into His ministry, for all necessary provisions. With God’s help, I want to preach Christ and not challenges as some have tended to do; a practice that has reduced the gospel to wealth, health and prosperity.

My future plan is to continue at this church to mentor the two brothers in leadership and preaching. Finally pray for me that I may preach God's word faithfully to God’s glory alone."

“The Church plant I am involved with is Garneton East Chapel in Kitwe (above). Because of Covid-19 we are unable to have regular church services, except bible studies at my house on Friday afternoons.

Due to various circumstances before and now made worse by Covid-19, fifteen of our members who have indicated a desire to obey God in baptism, are still waiting for that."

In January 2020, Moses was a guest lecturer at PIZ. Moses covered for Chris, the Principal, who was in South Africa at the time, attending a conference.

Moses came to preach a Sunday service that was held on PIZ campus due to COVID restrictions in Zambia. He spoke on Luke 10 vs 17-22.  He says that the Lord undertook for him at PIZ.
Prayer requests:
1. Pray that we can resume our regular services at Garneton East Chapel soon.
2. Pray for continued interest from the members to attend bible study.
3. I am doing my last semester at Central Africa Baptist University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Bible Arts. Please pray that I finish well.

Nelly Muyinda

Nelly was at Lusaka Baptist church before going to PIZ. At PIZ she picked up good  bible handling skills and she is now studying at Centre for Christian Mission (CCM) for a Bachelor in Theology in  Mission. In the picture (Nelly is on the left) she had just been interviewed at a local radio station on PIZ and CCM. The radio station is called Radio Ichengelo (The Light) in Kitwe.

Richard Mudata

“I am a member of the New Covenant Church in Kitwe, where I serve as assistant pastor. My involvement is in the evangelism and intercessory ministry of our church. We also have work in Mkushi, Central province. There are testimonies of people who have been saved through our ministry in both places.

KITWE
Apart from the spiritual needs among the people I minister to, there are great needs of basic things like food and clothes. Some of the children are orphans with no one to fend for them in a regular way. Even those with parents have big challenges even paying school fees.

One has to think through ways to generate funds to help these people physically even in a small way, while preaching salvation to them. One such idea for Kitwe is the acquiring of necessary equipment to open a small Radio station for the spread of the gospel as well as the generation of funds, as people will pay to have their programmes aired.

MKUSHI
There are a lot of children who are either orphans or children from single parent homes here in Mkushi. Therefore, like in all other communities, the gospel of our LORD Jesus Christ is needed as well as practical ways to meet the needs of especially the orphans.
It is very disheartening sometimes to see how basic the needs are; like having a bar of bath soap or some washing powder, and yet some people cannot afford to have these.

Please pray that both the spiritual and material needs of the people I work among may be met. God bless you all.”

Allan C Kabaghe

Allan is involved in preaching the Word of God in an area East of Kwacha. They have erected a temporary church structure. He is pictured with his family and Andrew.
